After a whirlwind trip through New York, London, Milan, and Paris, the Spring 2020 shows [1] have finally concluded and we're able to look back at the countless collections and take stock. While trends large and small have begun to emerge, it's an overall feeling of a more pared-down, casual, and cool wardrobe for the coming season that we've truly been struck by. And no laid-back style essential stood in the forefront quite like denim [2].
Shows like Celine included denim in nearly every single look that walked the Parisian runway, while denim-lovers like Brock Collection and Isabel Marant included a spattering of jeans for morning, noon, and night. Givenchy, Chanel, and more followed suit, designing blue jeans, midi skirts, and button-down shirting that had us gaga over some of the most wearable outfits to walk the high-fashion runways in a long time.
From all those designers and more, here are seven ways we're wearing denim [3], straight from the Spring 2020 runways.
Celine
Celine really leaned into the 1970s vibe, giving off that elegant and tailored look by way of a more casual denim staple.
Isabel Marant
Isabel Marant kept it low-key with overalls, layering everything from bohemian-inspired blouses to colourful jewellery on heavy.
Brock Collection
Brock Collection designed denim looks that we can imagine one might have worn in the Victorian era — that is, had denim been a style essential at the time!
Givenchy
Givenchy gave off a youthful vibe, choosing a pair of denim shorts as a base, but dressing the look up with all the tailored black essentials the design house could find.
Chanel
Chanel's nautical air was one of mixing and matching prints, textures, and colours — all grounded by that one essential denim piece.
A.P.C.
Parisian youth has never looked so chic as at A.P.C., where the brand styled button-front skirts with ultra-feminine blouses made of crisp eyelet and ruffle trim.
Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney took denim into eveningwear, lowering the hemline of her denim skirts and styling the look with a sheer top and menswear-style blazer.
