Winter Wardrobe Remix: How to Step Out of the Box and Wear Colour Right Now

18/12/2019 - 05:55 PM

Just because it's the middle of Winter doesn't mean your wardrobe has to be committed to an all black, grey, and navy palette. In fact, Winter is one of our favourite seasons to wear the most colour [1]. There's just something about it that makes us happier.

The thing is, though, it's not as easy to shop for colour come Winter as it might be in the warmer-weather months. Gone are the selections of bright floral dresses [2], the neon tees have long since been put away, and no one is really in the market for a pair of pastel pants. But you should be.

Ahead, find 25 new (and easy!) ways to infuse a little bit of colour into your drab Winter wardrobe. We promise, it will instantly brighten your mood.

Go bold in colour and in silhouette with an oversized pink puffer this winter.

Keep it denim-on-denim, but add a splash of colour by way of a bright pair of red shoes.

Take your cosy later to the next level by opting for red outerwear instead of classic black, brown, or navy.

Add your colour by way of a timeless classic: the tweed jacket, thrown on over a pair of jeans and white tee.

Why settle on only one colourful item when you can mix and match more than one with a tie-dye turtleneck and bright red puffer on top?

Keep it classic with a straight-leg jeans look, but add a brightly-toned tailored blazer on top for a pop.

Swap out some of your favourite essentials for more colourful versions of the same, like a blazer, sneakers, and even a winter beanie.

Keep to like-tones to make a head-to-toe colourful look work, no matter what the ocassion.

A great rule of thumb when you're playing with multiple colours is to go for contrasting tones for a fun-loving look that will have all heads turning.

For the colour-lovers, consider mixing a little brightness into all aspects of your look, from the top to the pants to the blazer and more.

If you're a little wary of bright colour, consider trying out a midi skirt that's styled with a deeper and more neutral tone on top.

Whether summer, fall, winter, or spring, a pastel is always going to have a prime spot in all of our wardrobes.

Double up on your colourful knits, keeping to the same colorway and grounded by a black base.

Even with head-to-toe colour, there's room to play with a little bit more by way of handbags, shoes, and accessories.

When going for an full-colour look, consider mixing and matching your textures.

Even the colour-averse can get behind a butter-yellow look, made more seasoally-appropriate for winter in the form of a longline duster coat.

We love infusing a more casual look with a little bit of colour, as so many denim-on-denim outfits result in the tried-and-true hues of blue.

If you're going to cover up your outfit for the cold winter months anyway, it might as well be with a gorgeouslly-coloured coat.

Amp up your black denim look with a bright pink or other neon puffer, influsing new life into your otherwise colorless winter wardrobe.

Go for a little red, white, and blue well past July 4th, opting for a royal blue coat and bright red bag for the colder winter months.

Red and pink might be one of our favourite colour combos, especially when it comes to a dark and rich scarlett paired with the palest of pinks.

Though navy might technically be a colour, it acts as very much a neutrral when matched atop a brighter green hue.

Mix and match similar tones, like bright blue, teal, and green, for a head-turning look that's full of colour.

For the all-black clad: consider adding a pink sweater to the mix and we promise you won't regret it.

There is nothing that says confidence quite like a bright red power suit.

Top your cold-weather looks with a statement coat to really make heads turn—and no coat quite takes the statement cake like a brightly-coloured faux fur topper.

Don't be afraid of prints just because you've taken a deep dive into colour. Go big or go home when it comes to this trend, opting for contrasting florals in tones of yellow and green.
