It's hard to outshine Jada Pinkett Smith, but that giant rock she wears on her ring finger might just come close. Will Smith seriously set the bar high back in November 1997 when he dropped a quarter-million dollars to get a diamond deserving of the actress. Yes, you read that right — Jada's engagement ring is worth an estimated $250,000.
After meeting in 1994 when Jada auditioned for the role of Will's girlfriend on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (she didn't get the part), the couple dated for three years before deciding to tie the knot. Will chose to go with a stunning and almost too big to be real 12-carat emerald-cut diamond ring with two shoulder-set baguette diamonds for his proposal. The two got married on New Year's Eve at The Cloisters near Jada's hometown of Baltimore, MD.
Most people in possession of her gorgeous ring would probably never take it off, but Jada doesn't always sport her ring, so it's a rare and wonderful sight when we get a glimpse of the giant ring on the red carpet. She and Will tend to be private about their 22-year-long marriage, though they do acknowledge that it is a bit unconventional. In a New Year's Eve episode of Jada's Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, she spoke candidly about their Dec. 31 wedding anniversary and explained why they don't celebrate it. "It's more of a life partnership, so it's not steeped in that day," Jada said. "We don't really celebrate that day anymore in the sense because the context of our union is totally different."
Though rumours about the state of their marriage arise whenever Jada isn't wearing her rock, during an appearance on The Late Show, she made it pretty clear that things are more than fine with her and Will. "What was really important about Will and I doing that show together," Jada said about an October episode of Red Table Talk where Will joined her on set and they uncharacteristically got very real about their longtime union, "was to get rid of the idea that people in the public eye have perfect relationships."
