For 2020, there is a trail of both history and nature that runs through nearly all of the jewellery trends we most love, working their way through material, shape, and sentiment alike. Most literally, organic shapes and natural hard stones are gaining strength, showing up in jewellery of all shapes, sizes, and forms. Running parallel are trends that were first conceptualized centuries ago, bringing new life to Gypsy and signet rings alike. And, what's more, the jewellery lovers in us all have been seeking symbols of strength when it comes to choices of metal cuff bracelets, chunky chain-link necklaces, and more.

2020 is, of course, the start of a whole new decade and, with that, comes a new responsibility to set the tone for the coming years. We, for one, are very excited for all that is to come. Gypsy Rings

First popularized during the Victorian era, there's a new air of modernity to Gypsy rings thanks to the likes of jewellery designers like Brent Neale, who created a slightly chunkier version of the vintage favourite. Gypsy rings are made of either a single or trio of stones that are set low, nearly flush, with the ring's band. Fun fact? The name came from women who travelled through the countryside in the early 19th century, thinking that this particular setting would make it harder for gypsies they encountered along the way to steal the stones from their rings.

Lapis Lazuli

Hard stones like Lapis have been slowly coming to the forefront of the jewellery world again, which is in keeping with our shift towards more organic shapes and materials. While a cut gemstone might very well come from the same earth, there's something boldly unique about the naturally occurring patterns that are found within a hard stone like this one. What's more, from rings to earrings, to pendants and more, the richly opaque stone's lower price point than a more light-catching gem.

Bold Florals

Even as we air on the side of the timeless and classic when it comes to our jewellery as of late, there's still one ultra-feminine trend that stands out as much bolder than the rest. For 2020, it's all about flower earrings; whether large or small, neutral or brightly coloured. The world is your oyster when it comes to this one, as we love everything from a bright red flower stud to an oversized stone drop earring, peppered with jewels.

Wonder Woman Cuffs

There's a reason Wonder Woman Gal Godot was styled with a set of Tiffany & Co Elsa Peretti Bone Cuffs in this winter's trainer for the superhero's upcoming film. It is, of course, to remind us all of the strength a little armor can lend from time to time. This year, we're channelling our inner badass and reaching for a range of metal cuffs—from more dainty stone-clad gold styles to truly eye-catching sterling classics like those of Wonder Woman herself.

Head-Turning Hoops

We love the classic-with-a-twist vibe of a great pair of chunky hoops. While slightly oversized, this trend doesn't have to be so bold as to graze the tops of your shoulders. The power in these rounded earrings, though, is in their large tube-like style. There's something so simple about a pair of hoops—the earring trend that has come back in one form or another nearly every generation—but to choose a pair in 2020 that feels like it carries a bit more weight is definitely the way to go for the coming year.

Organic Shapes

While jewellery itself is always a true work of art, this year's skew towards more organic shapes and silhouettes allows us to see the hand that designed—now more than ever. The trend is over-arching, from stones inset with diamonds to cuffs that look as if the metal were twisted around your wrist like a ribbon; asymmetric pairings and uneven surfaces alike. This year, move beyond the hard and geometric and consider a more natural shape instead.

Chunky Links

Chunky links are a trend that spans generations, stylistic preferences, and—yes—overall vibes. In gold, silver, acrylic, and more, it's a linked look that is somehow simultaneously inspired by a motorcycle gang and reminiscent of our grandmothers' jewellery collections alike. For 2020, however, we're leaning slightly towards the latter, choosing statement necklaces and bracelets in warmer tones of gold and resin, leaving colder silvers for another day.

Asymmetrical Designs

This year, we're continuing our interpretation of the organic with mis-matched pairs and asymmetrical designs that feel more unique than a cookie-cutter shape. In addition to stocking up on rings and bracelets that give off an artistically crafted vibe, one of our favourite ways to rock this trend is with a mis-matched pair of earrings. Designers have embraced asymmetry this season by producing sets that mxi it up for you, but we also love the idea of a DIY by playing around with a swap of old favourites that already fill your jewellery box.

Signet Rings

There's something about a signet ring that makes us feel really fancy, simple as the design might be at its core. Perhaps it's the bauble's deep-rooted Royal history; or maybe it's that inner badass who can't help but think only of the mobster pinky ring look. No matter which way you slice it, we're very into the style. This season, we're stacking them up with no limit in sight—and highly suggest that you do too.

Classic Pearls

There is little quite as ladylike as a pair of pearls. Once counted as even more rare than diamonds, pearls took a little bit of a dive once cultured versions were introduced into the natural market. Today, they're coming back around as we crave a more timeless look, born on the backs of diamond ear climbers, strung on hoop earrings, and even sized in a line atop of a whisper-thin ring.

Tennis Bracelets

The tennis bracelet was named as such when U.S. Open player Chris Everett's thin diamond bracelet broke free from her wrist during a match and play was put on pause while she searched for the missing jewels. As such, this line bracelet was instantly granted space in everyday wear, feeling sportier than a more intricate alternative. For 2020, stack one or more onto your most elevated and sparkly arm party to-date—and we will certainly be in attendance.

Bright Colour

Though many of the 2020 trends are made of classic gold or silver, colour is certainly having a moment as far as statement pieces go. This year, we're placing no restrictions on how to add a little pep to your step, reaching for everything from multi-coloured gemstones to enamel beads; brightly-toned hard stones and acrylic styles alike.
