The 2022 Met Gala made a triumphant return this year on May 2, otherwise known as the first Monday in May, which is when the annual fête traditionally takes place. As the second series in a two-part exhibition titled "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," the annual fundraising event supports the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Naturally, a star-studded crowd was in attendance, with headliners including Simone Ashley, who arrived in a sparkling black co-ordinated set by Moschino. Lily James followed suit in a pear-covered gown by Atelier Versace.
This year's Met Gala theme is "Gilded Glamour," which invites guests to showcase their sartorial understanding of the Gilded Age, a time of rapid industrialisation in the United States between 1870 and 1900. In fashion, this translated into excess. Embellishments like fringe and ruffles were frequently seen on garments from this period.
