Earlier this week, shadow culture secretary MP Tracy Brabin wore a black off-the-shoulder dress from popular online retailer ASOS while speaking at the House of Commons. Soon after the video of Brabin debating in her LBD went viral, sexist comments started rolling in on Twitter with users questioning if her dress was appropriate for parliament — but Brabin wasn't going to let trolls cheapen her authority, and her clapback is genius.
"Hello. Sorry I don't have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I'm not... a slag, hungover, a tart, about to breastfeed, a slapper, drunk, just been banged over a wheelie bin," Brabin said on Twitter."Who knew people could get so emotional over a shoulder..." In response to the barrage of sexist backlash, Brabin auctioned her ASOS dress on eBay, which sold today for £2,055 — all proceeds will be donated towards the charity Girlguiding UK.
If you fancy copping your own MP-approved off-the-shoulder dress, the ASOS Design Pleated Shoulder Pencil Dress (£35) is still available to purchase in UK sizes 4-18.
