I Found the Perfect Slip-Ons For Errands and Dog Walking (but Shhh, They're Actually Slippers)

08/12/2021 - 08:05 PM

It's nearly winter, and I've finally come to grips with reality when it comes to my footwear. While I'll put on a full-length coat and even gloves much of the time, I was walking my pup in sandals up until a few weeks ago. As any dog owner can surely relate, when it comes to early-morning and late-night trips, I just can't be bothered with shoes that require lacing [1] or zipping, and honestly, pulling on slip-on sneakers with my hands is too much actual effort when in a rush.

I had been eyeing moccasins as an alternative since it's easier to just slide a foot in (especially if they're a bit roomy) but hadn't been looking for actual slippers until I spotted these Old Navy Plaid Faux-Fur Trim Moccasin Slippers [2] ($22, originally $25). Not only are they especially festive, but I could also tell the sherpa lining would be twice as cosy with socks . . . but better than any flats without.

Of course, when I spotted a matching puffy coat for pets on sale for Black Friday, I immediately scooped that up for a twinning look on chilly days (and I'm looking to up my co-ord game with more buffalo plaid [3] ASAP, too). I can't say enough great things about these slippers as shoes [4], but learn exactly why I love them with all my heart and soles ahead.

Why I'm Sold on Old Navy Moccasin Slippers as Shoes

First off, the faux-fur lining absolutely cuddles my feet, so I was sold from the moment my toes slipped inside. I not only wear them to walk my dog, but now I also slip them on to pop out to the store, grab laundry in my building, and head to the gym with cycling shoes in hand for spinning class. The soles are a substantial rubber and at least as thick as some of my actual shoes.

Even though the pattern may seem particularly slipper-esque [6], I do not care, and I've been wearing these nonstop as my new go-to. (I'm a size 6 or 6.5 normally, and I chose 6, and they fit perfectly with room for socks.) If you're not into this plaid in public, I loved them so much, I later ordered a similar faux-suede style, which can easily pass for standard moccasins. Shop all the options for yourself — and the current dog coats in stock — ahead.

Old Navy Faux-Suede Sherpa-Lined Moccasin Slippers in Chestnut

I picked up this pair of Old Navy Faux-Suede Sherpa-Lined Moccasin Slippers in Chestnut [9] ($18, originally $25) for some variety. (Note: I'd say this style is a touch roomier than the plaid if you're between sizes.)

Old Navy Quilted Sherpa-Lined Puffer Jacket For Pets in All Black All the Time

The black Old Navy Quilted Sherpa-Lined Puffer Jacket For Pets [13] ($16, originally $24) is a winter staple in three sizes. (Note: Beau, my 12-pound Boston terrier [14], wears a size small, which fits well length-wise but is a bit roomy in the chest as he's lean.)
