Sydney Sweeney's latest outfit looks like it was plucked straight out of Cassie Howard's closet. While shooting a campaign for Bai in New York City on 15 June, Sweeney stepped out in a low-rise cargo miniskirt and customised Cotton:On baseball baby tee [1]. The light pink Y2K-inspired ensemble harkened back to her "Euphoria" character's soft-girl aesthetic [2], characterised by pastels, hyperfeminine silhouettes, and romantic details. She accessorised with gold hoop earrings, literal rose-tinted glasses, and white Miu Miu sandals. Her shirt also featured the words "Bai Babe" written across the chest in bubbly Barbie-esque letters.
This isn't the first time Sweeney has dipped her toe into the Y2K trend [3]. She once went viral for a similar look at the 2022 MTV Movie and TV Awards [4], thanks to her glittery Miu Miu miniskirt [5] and cropped button-up top. She later put an edgier spin on the same trend for an appearance at the Miu Miu store, pairing a low-rise leather skirt [6] with matching cowboy boots, and more recently, wearing a black ruffled miniskirt [7] in England.
While Sweeney may have drawn inspiration from Howard in the past, her off-screen style still differs from her on-screen persona. Whereas the "Euphoria"-verse shows her sticking to trends, in real life, Sweeney has plenty of experience setting them — attending a premiere in a sheer-panelled naked dress [8], and wearing an embellished cutout blazer [9] at the Berlin Film Festival. Still, this latest look shows that worlds do sometimes collide. Read on to see the stylish proof.
