Miley Cyrus Just Went to the Tom Ford Fashion Show — in a Subway Station

10/09/2019 - 12:35 PM

Tom Ford [1]'s Spring/Summer 2020 runway show for New York Fashion Week was held underground — at the Bowery subway station to be exact. Among the front row attendees were fellow designer Diane von Furstenberg [2], Anna Wintour [3], Ansel Elgort [4], Joan Smalls [5], and Miley Cyrus [6], who was wearing a full look from Tom Ford's Fall 2019 collection.

The collection featured '80s-inspired looks within a context of a post-apocalyptic underground. Despite the grit and grime of the venue, Ford went for classical music as the show's soundtrack. The choice of classical music romanticized a bygone past, the '80s satin suiting referenced a recent past that we continue to cling to, and the context of the subway with fluorescent lights gave a glimpse into a somewhat grim, Blade Runner [7] type of future. Whatever the intention of the designer, hosting a luxury show in a New York City subway station is a fresh, fascinating contrast.

Read ahead for a closer look at the front row showgoers, and every angle of Tom Ford's Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
