Popsugar Fashion Celebrity Fashion What Friends Character Are You Based on Your Denim Style? Are You a Ross or a Rachel? Well, That Depends on Your Jeans 21 January 2020 by Sarah Wasilak Image Source: Everett Collection As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work. We all love to argue about which Friends character we are with our loved ones. I've heard the "No, I'm Monica and you're Rachel" whine one too many times. Instagram has even offered to settle the argument for us by blessing us with a handy filter to figure it out. Thank the lawd. But if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty, then it's not just about your personality, it's about your style, too. We're pretty much convinced that Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Joey, and Phoebe each have their own OG denim look that falls right in line with who they are. Honestly, Rachel's mom jeans were just as classic and recognisable as her famous hairstyle, at least for us fashion gals, and it was so like Ross to show up in corduroys, wasn't it? Phoebe, on the other hand, was extremely original with her outfits, so her jean choice should come as no surprise. We're not disappointed by any of the denim that made its debut on Friends, and the fact that all the silhouettes here are still wearable today is all the convincing you'll need to shop. Yes, relax — after you finish this episode! But we'll always remember her classic '90s style as a straight leg with a high rise. She wore these most regularly with Keds and white socks, in the most polished fashion, of course. They were the precursor to skinny jeans, and honestly, we prefer them. His jeans were more slouchy up top than Joey's and didn't come with as high of a rise. They were like the dad jean to Rachel's mom jean, and we especially loved when he wore them with sweater vests. Rachel's mom jean was fitted at top and rounded out her booty, but the straight leg gave way to a roomier ankle. While she, too, experimented with the boot cut, her earlier days revolved around the undoubtedly sexy outfit of a white t-shirt and live-in denim. Ross owned khakis and light wash dad jeans à la Chandler, but his professional menswear style looked best with corduroys, and that's exactly how we prefer to remember him. Ross was the paleontologist in roomy corduroys and colorblock sweaters. Frankly, we don't hate that look at all right now. As the seasons progressed, his early '90s silhouette was more modernised in a darker wash. There is absolutely no denying that Joey Tribbiani's tush was worth checking out in a pair of true blues, and his muscular shape helped fill them out.
