Winter is fast approaching [1], which means it's time to treat ourselves to that gorgeous new coat we've had our eye on. While most of us have a go-to jacket that's lasted us many chilly seasons, it's nice to make a little space in our wardrobes [2] for some new season outerwear. This Winter, we've taken a look at the best London street style [3] and found seven standout coat trends that will be populating the pavements well into the new year.
London's Winter street style showed us that patent coats are taking over from the leather coats we once loved. The leather look still makes for an edgy, chic outfit, but faux leather and earth-toned patent coats are definitely leading this trend. Quilted coats have also grown in popularity, taking the throne from their bulkier cousin, the puffer jacket. And while we move toward more ethical fabrics that are kinder to animals, teddy jackets are becoming more popular than faux-fur coats this season. Two-tone outerwear, capes, and candy-coloured pastel coats are some surprise Winter trends we've also spotted, while the classic checked overcoat makes its way to the top of our list as a timeless choice.
Keep reading ahead for seven of our favourite Winter coat trends, and here are some quick links to each of the silhouettes:
