Adam Rippon Nailed His First Olympic Performance, and the Internet Is Exploding
It was Adam Rippon's Olympics debut, and his performance for the men's free skate during the team event was absolutely breathtaking. Skating to "Arrival of the Birds/Exodus" by The Cinematic Orchestra and "O" by Coldplay, the 28-year-old landed not one but two triple axels during his flawless routine, helping the U.S. earn a bronze medal in the figure skating team competition.
The above video is the same routine performed during the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. As you can see, he falls during his first jump, but it gives you a sense of his pure grace and ability to be simultaneously strong and fluid.

Some people were not at all impressed with the judges and got all fired up. They felt that "Rippon got ripped off" and robbed of a first-place finish in his category because he didn't fall once, like his competitors, Russian skater Mikhail Kolyada and Canadian skater Patrick Chan. Adam's lower score may have been because the judges felt his routine was not as technically difficult since he didn't attempt any quad jumps.

But that performance did earn him a spot on the podium, and one of the first to congratulate Adam was Gus Kenworthy.
