Let's talk about building muscle [1]. It may sound as easy as doing a couple of squats and push-ups here and there, but it isn't. To build muscle, you need to be strategic about your workouts, lift heavy [2], make sure you're eating enough, and be consistent with strength training.

To get you started, I've rounded up some of my favourite strength exercises that will help you build muscle; this isn't a workout, but exercises for you to use to build your own strength-training session. Leg Press

Banded Assisted Pull-Up

Barbell Squat

Single-Arm Row

Dumbbell Walking Lunge

Deadlift With Knee Drive

Dumbbell Bench Press

Trainer tip: use 15-pound dumbbells. If that's too heavy or too light, change the weight.

Weighted Glute Bridge

Plank With Triceps Kickback

Bulgarian Split Squat

Romanian Deadlift

Trainer tip: use 20-pound dumbbells (or a barbell). If that's too heavy or too light, change the weight.

Renegade Row

Dumbbell Squat

Trainer tip: use 15-pound dumbbells. If that's too heavy or too light, change the weight.

Bent-Over Reverse Fly

Barbell Hip Thrust

Dumbbell Squat Press

Goblet Squat

Narrow Stance Deadlift

Bent-Over Row

Hex Bar Deadlift

Hamstring Curl

Step-Up

If this is too easy, you can perform this exercise with dumbbells.
