Halloween [3] season equates to cute costumes, constant sugar indulgences [4], and yep, the eventual dentist appointment. With candy and sugary treats in constant rotation, it should come as no surprise that Starbucks jumped in on the sweet fun in liquid form by releasing the new Wich's Brew Frappuccino [5], available Oct. 25. But before you slam the order button on your Starbucks app or sprint to the nearest store, we felt it was only fair to provide the answer to what we know you're wondering: just how many calories is it?

Well, for starters, it's beautiful — just look at that purple creme and perfectly blended chia seeds! The photos of the drink are undoubtedly Instagram-worthy, but if you're watching your calorie count or sugar intake [6], you might choose to stick to looking at it on social media instead of sipping on it in real life. The Witch's Brew Frappuccino is made with a purple blend [7] of "toad's breath," which according to the press release tastes like orange creme, mixed with chia seeds (festively referred to as "bat warts"), and topped with vanilla whipped cream and green powder dust (aka "lizard scales").

A grande Witch's Brew Frappuccino made with whole milk has 390 calories, 16 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, and a whopping 53 grams of sugar. But don't write it off just yet, because just like our favourite Pumpkin Spice Latte [9], there's a way to customize the drink and make it healthier — bless those baristas! A grande Witch's Brew Frappuccino made with almond milk and no whipped cream has only 230 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 0 grams of saturated fat, and 45 grams of total sugar. (For reference, the American Heart Association recommends [10] women consume 25 grams of sugar daily and men consume 37.5 grams.) Both variations of the Witch's Brew Frappuccino do not have caffeine.

Any coffee-fiend knows that Starbucks Frappuccinos tend to be sugar-filled [11], and we're all about indulging (hello, candy season!), but it's important to be aware of what we're consuming, even if it's for a drink that pretty.
