Easy Calorie-Saving Hacks

Cut Calories, Not Portions, With These Easy Food Hacks

Eating healthier and trying to lose weight can seem overwhelming. After all, many people assume they have to give up all their favourite foods and only eat leafy greens or steamed veggies for every meal, which gets incredibly boring.

Luckily, dietitian Paula Norris (@movingdietitian on Instagram) proved that you can still enjoy your favourite comfort foods and cut calories without cutting portions. In an Instagram post, she showed that you can swap 200 grams of mince (ground beef) for just 100 grams of mince and 100 grams of beef. By bulking up your ground beef with beans, you not only save 140 calories, but also add six grams of fibre. She also recommends bulking up your meat with other vegetables such as carrot, mushrooms, and courgette.

Instead of eating 40 grams of cheddar cheese, eat 20 grams of Parmesan and save 45 calories. "Parmesan has a sharper flavour so you do not need to use as much," she wrote in her caption. If you normally eat one cup of mashed potatoes with butter, eat only half a cup of mashed potato mixed with half a cup of mashed cauliflower to save 95 calories.

The best part about these swaps is that you don't have to sacrifice flavour to cut back on calories. With a few simple hacks, you can still enjoy your favourite foods and lose weight.
