She may be known as the mother of dragons on the hit show Game of Thrones, but Emilia Clarke is a lovable, relatable woman when she's not in front of the camera. In addition to having a contagious smile and gorgeous skin, she's in pretty damn good shape. How does she keep her slim figure when she's so busy? We have to ask, especially since she's starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is set to release on May 25. Here's how Emilia maintained her health to film for one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
She Eats a Clean but Flexible Diet
Emilia has worked closely for a long time with James Duigan, fitness expert and author of Clean and Lean For Life: The Cookbook, and his whole approach to eating is that you should never punish yourself for enjoying food. "The only thing that works is balance," he said in an interview with Whimm. "The minute you begin to weigh your food, count your kilojoules, or beat yourself up for going out for dinner, it's over."
That's why Emilia doesn't follow any particular strict diet. She eats as clean as possible, and whenever she feels like it, she indulges, within reason. James teaches his clients to smartly answer cravings, rather than fight them, and enjoy their relationship with food. "Allow me to introduce the key to my very happy kitchen. This book. And this dude [that] wrote it," Emilia wrote in one of her Instagram captions about James' book.
She Does Bodyweight Interval Training
James works with many women who travel a lot for work. "This means that we need to tailor the training to be super-efficient as well as achievable anywhere in the world," he said. That's why he prescribes bodyweight HIIT workouts that don't require equipment, including planks, push-ups, lunges, squats, etc. Per James's request, Emilia also sometimes bring resistance bands with her so she can get a little extra strength component in her workout that allows her to create a lean, toned figure.
She Treats Her Body With Kindness
"Take a moment to listen to what your mind and body need, allowing yourself to make positive changes across your mindset, nutrition, movement, and sleep. The perfect body is one that you feel happy and healthy in," James said. That's the philosophy Emilia lives by as well. She does recovery practices after her workouts, she practices self-care, and she always takes care of herself, both mentally and physically. No wonder she's such a bundle of joy!
