That's Ester Ledecka below, looking around in shock after realizing what had just happened. A Czech snowboarder who only began competing in the women's Super-G skiing competition two years ago, took home gold! And oh, she was borrowing Mikaela Shiffrin's skis, who was unable to compete because of her compressed schedule.
You'd be shocked, too. 😱— #TokyoOlympics (@NBCOlympics) February 17, 2018
Ester Ledecka, a world champion SNOWBOARDER, shocks the field to win a surprise-gold by 0.01 in alpine skiing women's super-G! #WinterOlympics https://t.co/YtEpNzDMDu pic.twitter.com/EeoHuALcKX
Ledecka thought it was some kind of mistake since she has never finished higher than 29th in the event. So yeah, this definitely makes the list of our top favorite 2018 Olympic moments! She even attended the press conference wearing her goggles because she never in a million years thought she'd win, and wasn't wearing any makeup!
Esther has two coaches — one for skiing and one for snowboarding. She's supposed to strap her snowboard back on to compete in the parallel giant slalom next week, but this win may change her plans. She could enter in Wednesday's Alpine downhill. Whatever she does, we're not going to miss watching it!
