FKA Twigs Instagram Post About Fibroid Surgery

FKA Twigs Opens Up About Her Emotional Battle With Fibroid Surgery

Women's health issues are rarely spoken about in public, but thanks to a handful of celebrities sharing their stories, the stigma surrounding this issue has started to dispel. An example of this is endometriosis, which has recently seen increased discussion thanks to a number of celebrities speaking out about their struggles, including Lena Dunham's hysterectomy story and Halsey's openness surrounding infertility. Now, FKA Twigs is opening up about the surgery she had to remove fibroid tumours.

Speaking up in a very personal Instagram post, the British singer began by saying that although she's a very private person by nature, she's decided to share her story. FKA Twigs revealed that, in December, she had six fibroid tumours removed and that their "weight and size was like being 6 months pregnant." "The tumours were pretty huge," she wrote. "The size of 2 cooking apples ๐ŸŽ ๐ŸŽ, 3 kiwis ๐Ÿฅ ๐Ÿฅ ๐Ÿฅ and a couple of ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“. a fruit bowl of pain everyday."

Uterine fibroids are abnormal tissue growths in the uterus, and symptoms can vary from none at all to debilitating pain. Fibroids are actually very common and can affect up to 80 percent of women. For most, these fibroids are benign, which means they aren't cancerous. However, they can still be extremely painful.

FKA Twigs also shared how, during her surgery, she "felt really alone and my confidence as a woman was knocked," but that dancing helped her feel "like my strong self again for the first time in a while and it was magical." We agree: she looks pretty damn magical and powerful.
