Foods to Avoid at the Grocery Store

These So-Called "Healthy" Foods Are Actually Full of Hidden Sugars

When we go grocery shopping, we often pat ourselves on the back when we pick out the "healthy" foods and toss them into our cart. But Max Lugavere, best-selling author, reminds us that we're often tricked by the umbrella of "healthy." He lists out six common foods that are actually not very good for you at all.

These foods are either full of artificial ingredients, packed with sugar, or calorie-laden. If you look closely at the nutrition label, you'll see that they're likely not even worth your time. Here's the full list:

  • "Heart healthy" cereals
  • Agave syrup
  • Fruit-on-the-bottom yoghurt
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Barbecue baked beans
  • Orange juice

"One of the things that I've discovered to be true is that the vast, vast, VAST majority of food manufacturers, food preparers, restaurants, and marketers do NOT care about your health," Max wrote. "This is why my hope is that you inform yourself and become vigilant with your food choices. Be curious, ask questions, and support those who actually DO commit to your health."

So make sure you're always reading the labels! If you don't, you may end up consuming hundreds of extra calories every day, or eating tons of processed sugar, both of which could cause unwanted weight gain.
