If this is your first Thanksgiving on the keto diet, you're probably still figuring out which of the classic dishes you can actually eat. Let's start with the star of the table: Thanksgiving turkey is keto, but what about the gravy you pour on top?

It all comes down to one ingredient. The broth, drippings, and seasonings that serve as the base for gravy are low-carb, Meghan Lyle, RDN, health coach at Arivale, told POPSUGAR. "But instead of using flour or cornflour as a thickening agent, choose additional fats like oils and meat drippings." With this method, the thickness of your gravy will come from the reduction of the sauce, instead of flour.

If you prefer a traditional thickening agent, you can also swap in keto-friendly tapioca starch.

But what if you're not the one making dinner this year? Know this: the number of carbs in a serving of gravy varies widely, depending on how much of any one ingredient was added during cooking. If you want to stay firmly in ketosis, it's probably best to pass.
