Healthier Dark Chocolate Dessert Comparison

These Photos Show What 165 Calories of a Healthy Dessert Actually Looks Like

When it comes to treating your sweet tooth, some dark chocolate usually does the trick. Not only is it delicious, but dark chocolate has some antioxidants and can be a healthy choice in moderation. The problem is sticking to just one square of chocolate, and even that small of a serving may not be satisfying.

As dietitian Paula Norris (@movingdietitian) shows, you can get way more bang for your nutritional buck if you swap three pieces of chocolate for one piece of chocolate plus strawberries and a few almonds. Both options are 165 calories, but the photo on the right proves you get way more food and can still enjoy something sweet. You'll satisfy your chocolate craving with the piece of chocolate, enjoy more sweets with the strawberries, and get a salty fix with the almonds — all making for a delicious, well-rounded dessert.

In her caption, Paula explained the photo on the left is 30 grams of chocolate, while the photo on the right is 10 grams of chocolate, eight almonds, and 200 grams of strawberries. "Not forgetting [the] absence of added sugar plus the extra fibre, Vitamin C, good fats, manganese, folate, and potassium (amongst many other nutrients!) you'll get from the almonds and [strawberries]," she wrote in her caption.

Although there's nothing wrong with enjoying a little bit more chocolate, this photo shows that for less than 200 calories, you can still eat a lot of food and enjoy a satisfying dessert.
