Lindsey Vonn Tearfully Talks About Late Grandfather, Saying, "I'm Going to Win For Him"

16/02/2018 - 02:02 PM

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn [1] is already emotional about representing Team USA [2] at Pyeongchang. It's her fourth and final Olympic Games, and it's been eight years since she last competed in one. But when a CNN reporter asked about her grandfather [3], it was almost too much to bear.

Trying to keep it together, she wished the reporter hadn't brought up her late grandfather and said, "It's really hard for me not to cry. I want so badly to do well for him, and I miss him so much." She said she really hoped he'd be alive to see her. Lindsey tearfully went on, "I know he's watching, and I know that he's going to help me, and I'm going to win for him."

Well...after 8 years of waiting I finally get a chance to compete in the Olympics again. This time I have a more important mission; win for my late Grandpa. He will be watching from the best seat in the house, hopefully looking out for me and guiding me down the mountain. I will leave it all out on the hill tomorrow and have no regrets. I love you Grandpa. Wish me luck🙏🏻 (start time is 11am here so it's live on @nbc at 9pm est. I am bib #1 so don't be late!) [5]
