London Marathon Runner Dressed As Big Ben

A London Marathon Runner Dressed As Big Ben For the Race, and Got Stuck At the Finish Line

For the average marathon runner, going the 26.2 miles is a challenge on its own. For Lukas Bates, however, the real challenge was running the distance on April 28 in a Big Ben suit. That's right, Lukas ran the course in an outfit which replicated the iconic London tower — all for a good cause.

Lukas attempted to break the Guinness World Record for fastest marathon run as a landmark, with the hopes of finishing in less than three hours, 34 minutes and 34 seconds. His goal was to raise money for Alzheimer's research in conjunction with his run. He unfortunately got held up at the finish line when the top of his tower clipped the overhang, and required help from race volunteers to finish the marathon. Lukas didn't end up breaking the world record (he finished in three hours and 54 minutes), but he did exceed his fundraising goal by 296%. Now that's a success!
