Get the Skinny on All of Slimming World's Changes in 2019

For many of us, the new year brings with it a renewed focus on healthy eating, exercise, and weight loss — and Slimming World is taking an "out with the old, in with the new" attitude for 2019 too. The organisation is rolling out changes to its plan after its Nutrition team has undertaken another routine review to ensure it's up to date with the latest international guidance.

These reviews have caused controversy in the past, like when Muller Lights changed from Free Food status to having Syns, despite no change in recipe. That was because many members were eating so many of the fat-free flavoured yoghurts that it was having an impact on their weight loss. As there are so many ways to sabotage your progress in this way, organisations like Slimming World are constantly tweaking their plans to ensure their members don't plateau by hacking the plans. If that sounds familiar, check out a few weight-loss motivation techniques to help you achieve your goals.

Slimming World members who've attended meetings in 2019 should have received a free limited edition New Member Pack for Slimming World's Golden Anniversary year, which will provide information about these revisions. But if you've missed out or you're still confused, let us break down the main points and explain the benefits of this new focus on better results and more educated goals around nutrition:

  • The Extra Easy plan has an additional Healthy Extra* "a" choice each day — this is to allow for more calcium and choice
  • The amount of whole cow's milk is being increased to 200ml per day, within the Healthy Extra "a" allowance — this is to boost calcium intake
  • Extra Easy SP plan members will be advised to enjoy a maximum of 10 Syns per day — this is to further boost weight loss
  • Some "Free Foods", including baked beans, broad beans, mung beans, and peas (except split peas) will no longer be labelled "P" (protein-rich) — this is due to new nutrition info. They will still be Free (no need to weigh, count, or measure)
  • The Healthy Extra "a" portion of rice milk has decreased to 225ml and almond milk to 400ml — this is because of the increase of these products in the market, which changes their overall average nutrition profile
  • Sweetened dairy-free milk, reduced-fat/light soft cheese, and soft goat's cheese are no longer Healthy Extras

*Healthy Extra choices are foods that support an overall balanced diet by providing calcium, fibre, other essential minerals, and healthy oils

These small changes may take a while to get used to, but they should help ensure that those following the plan in 2019 have the most up-to-date plan possible to ensure success and continued progress.
