Just in time for Fall, Trader Joe's has brought us protein-packed organic bone broths made from free-range chicken bones and grass-fed beef bones. These broths look similar to the ones TJ's released last year [3], but the ingredients and packageing are different (they're pour-able!).
According to the ever-reliable @traderjoeslist Instagram [4], TJ's organic beef and chicken bone broths have 10 grams of protein and 40 to 45 calories per one-cup serving. There's no fat and little-to-no carbs. Each container is made up of two and a half servings (see the full nutrition facts in the Instagram slide show above). The ingredients are simple and all organic: beef or chicken broth, onions, apple cider vinegar, garlic, sea salt, and parsley.
In case you need a refresher, bone broth is made by simmering the bones and connective tissues of an animal for hours. The collagen in this broth can aid in digestion and gut health [5]. Bone broth, by the way, is also paleo-approved! (Note: You can have it on the keto diet, but be wary of the protein count when you're looking to stay in ketosis [6].) You can cook with it and even sip it like tea. If you're interested, these packages reportedly cost $6 apiece. Get to it, then!
