When I'm Craving Salty Potato Chips, This Is My New Favourite Low-Cal Trader Joe's Snack

09/08/2019 - 07:15 PM

I was lucky enough to spot not one but two new products when shopping at Trader Joe's this week. You've heard me already gush about the 50-calorie Trader Joe's Chocolate Hummus [1] (that tastes like chocolate mousse!), and I also found these Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack. Keep reading to learn what shocked me when I read the nutrition label.

Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack Nutritional Info

Look at that list of ingredients: it's just carrots and sea salt! If you bought potato chips, they'd be fried in oil, which adds tons of calories and fat.

Speaking of, a whole bag of these dried carrots (which is about one and a half cups) is just 140 calories. There's 1.5 grams of fat, no saturated fat or cholesterol, and 310 milligrams of sodium. It does have 28 grams of carbs but also offers a whopping 11 grams of fibre — that's half the recommended daily amount! And who knew carrots offered protein? This bag has three grams.

That's not all: you'll also get four percent of your daily calcium, two percent of your daily iron, 20 percent of your daily potassium, and 15 percent of your daily vitamin A (because . . . carrots). This snack is pretty darn healthy!

How Do Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack Taste?

So they're healthy, which is great, but what we really want to know is: are they good? Yes! Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack taste slightly salty and slightly sweet. These are delightfully crispy-crunchy, just like potato chips (I swear!).

While eating a small bowl of raw baby rainbow carrots would definitely be lower in calories, sodium, and carbs, baby carrots are not potato chips! So if you've got a hankering for a bag of crunchy saltiness, these Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack are definitely a healthy and comparable option.

How Much Do Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack Cost?

A bag of these Trader Joe's Dehydrated Rainbow Carrots Snack costs $3. I found them near all the other crunchy snacks, which is a good thing. Because when you're heading down the aisle, you really want potato chips, and your eye catches a glimpse of these rainbow carrots, you just may go for them instead. You won't be disappointed!
