Move over avocado on toast: there's a new breakfast trend in town. You can now get your weekend off to a chilled start in the tastiest way — with a dose of CBD oil in your breakfast. London's Glow Bar [1] is serving customers vegan CBD croissants every Friday and Saturday. Founder Sasha Sabapathy explains that the wellness destination has brought in the new product as a way of providing customers with a "non-alcoholic solution for overcoming social anxiety." She also hopes the pastry treats, which are supplied by Organic Livity, will "raise awareness about hemp as a wellness supplement." So what exactly is CBD oil [2], and how is it linked to hemp?

The compound CBD (cannabidiol) is derived most famously from marijuana plants, but it is also present in other sativa plants, like hemp. It has various beneficial properties [3], from helping with anxiety [4] to relieving pain. If the link to marijuana concerns you from a legal standpoint, then rest assured that CBD oil is totally legal in the UK [5]. It is a cannabinoid, but unlike THC [6], it doesn't have the psychoactive properties that intoxicate you, therefore it isn't classified as a drug.

The Glow Bar CBD Croissants are available at 70 Mortimer Street, cost £7, and contain 5mg of CBD. If you can't make it to London, fear not — you can make your own CBD-infused sweet treats [7].
