Why Isn't the Keto Diet Working?

A Dietitian Says This Is the Sneaky Reason You Aren't Seeing Results on the Keto Diet

As most know, the keto diet is a high-fat, low-carb diet that is used to manage type 2 diabetes, while others use it for weight-loss purposes. If you've been following the keto diet for some time, but haven't reaped any of the benefits: weight loss, better energy, and lower blood sugar levels you're probably making this common mistake.

Nutrition scientist Catherine Metzgar, PhD, RD, who is on the clinical team at Virta Health, spoke with POPSUGAR and explained that people often don't achieve nutritional ketosis because they're consuming too much protein. Protein has a moderate insulin-stimulating effect that can interfere with ketone production when you have too much, preventing ketosis.

Instead of always opting for snacks full of protein when you're hungry, the Virta Health team recommends eating five servings of non-starchy vegetables throughout the day. By doing so, you will be fuller longer and will be able to achieve ketosis.
