The Best 2019 NYC Marathon Signs

If you want to witness more than 50,000 people take on 26.2 miles across five boroughs of New York City while a sea of spectators cheer them on to the finish line, the NYC Marathon is the event for you. (Of course, if your goal is to actually run the marathon, that's fine, too!) Professional and amateur athletes start in Staten Island, make their way past booming crowds and skyscrapers, and end by striding through Central Park. The energy at this year's marathon was no exception. Not convinced? Check out one man taking a pitstop to dance along the route in Brooklyn:

As for the elite runners, Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei, in her marathon debut, beat out four-time winner Mary Keitany. Geoffrey Kamworor, also from Kenya, took home gold on the men's side, and the wheelchair division titles went to USA's Daniel Romanchuk and Switzerland's Manuela Schär. Read more about those results from Nov. 3 here.

Pro athlete or not, sometimes all you need is a little encouragement from people standing by with poster board and smiles. Ahead, check out some of the best signs at the 2019 NYC Marathon. There were Lizzo lyrics, funny quotes, and words of wisdom to give those participating a laugh or a reason to keep on keepin' on. Congrats to everyone who made it and to the crowds who helped keep spirits high.
