This Portable Projector Makes Home Workouts So Exciting — I Feel Like I'm in a Movie Theatre!

21/07/2020 - 12:15 AM

Even though my gym reopened last month and implemented strict protocols to protect everyone from the spread of the coronavirus, I've just felt too nervous to go back. I know the rate of transmission in children is low [1], but they aren't immune. Since my daughter has a history of a rare seizure disorder that affected her breathing, I feel much safer continuing to work out at home.

I've mostly been running outside, hiking and walking, and doing a little swimming and a tiny bit of yoga. My workouts are 95 percent outdoors, though, and I've been getting a little anxious knowing that winter is coming (it can snow as early as October here in Vermont!). So when Cinemood sent me its portable projector to try out, I knew I'd be a million times more inspired for indoor workouts.

Keep reading to learn about all the features Cinemood 360 [2] ($500) offers and what makes it so great for home workouts.

Cinemood Has YouTube!

The best feature of Cinemood 360 [4] ($500) regarding home workouts is that it comes preloaded with YouTube, so I could stream any workout video I want on the wall in my home gym. It's so much more exciting and easier to follow along when I can see the video so large — it's way better than trying to watch on my tiny laptop, or worse, my iPhone.

It doesn't have to be dark in the room to see the screen — it'll surprisingly easy to see in a dimly lit room. I usually turn the light off in my workout room and leave the door open so I can see my equipment and what I'm doing.

Cinemood Is Portable and Has Netflix

You can use your iPhone or Apple Watch as a remote which makes it easy to type in what you want to search for on YouTube, and makes it easy to adjust the focus. You can adjust the volume right on the device.

Cinemood is also portable and weighs just nine ounces, so after it's charged using the USB plug (battery lasts up to five hours), I can also bring my workout outside anywhere there's a blank wall (as long as it's dark enough outside). I also love that it's preloaded with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, so I can watch movies or episodes of anything I want while stretching after my workout — I can even point the projector on the ceiling while lying down.

Cinemood Preview

Here's a little video so you can see what a workout looks like on the wall. The image isn't as clear as a TV or my computer screen, but that doesn't bother me because the size is what's exciting! If I brought the Cinemood closer to the wall to make the image smaller, it would be clearer, but I like it big! I can make it as big as my wall allows, which is about four feet across. It makes me feel like I'm in a movie theatre, which gets me pumped to work out — even at 6 a.m.!

The sound coming from the Cinemood speaker is loud enough, and I can also turn the sound off if I want to be in silence or listen to music or a podcast on my phone.

Workout Videos on Cinemood

Here are some of the workouts I've been loving on YouTube to stream on Cinemood:

The Cinemood 360 [11] is absolutely a game changer when it comes to home workouts! If you don't need Disney+, you can get the original Cinemood [12] ($350) instead. Note that the Cinemood 360 has 32GB of internal storage, while the Cinemood only has 16GB. If you're going to be working out at home for the foreseeable future, you might want to put the money you would have spent on gym fees on this!
