Alex George Is New Government Youth Mental Health Ambassador

Love Island's Dr Alex George Is Appointed as Government's New Youth Mental Health Ambassador

On 2 Feb, Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Love Island's Dr Alex George as Youth Mental Health Ambassador to advise the government.

"Dr. Alex will also provide input on the issues being faced by children and young people and how this can be reflected in the tools and support teachers will need in order to provide high-quality advice and care to their students who need it, and what more could be done to ensure the mental health curriculum meets the standard children need," a government press release on the news confirmed.

The news comes after Dr George launched an Instagram campaign in January 2021 urging the government to consider improving mental health among young people and specifically within schools. He requested a meeting with the prime minister and Secretary of State For Education Gavin Williamson to discuss areas of improvement. Mental health has always been a passion for the A&E doctor, but after his 19-year-old brother Llŷr died by suicide, Dr George has never been more committed to helping others facing similar challenges.

"Right now young people need a voice in government, and I hope that through this role I can advocate for meaningful change in this area," Dr George said.

Alex's new unpaid position will start immediately, and he'll work within the government's Department For Education.
