5 Ways You Can Support Healthcare Workers on the Front Lines of COVID-19

17/07/2020 - 10:13 PM

It's natural to feel overwhelmed in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Due to the shutdowns, small businesses are floundering, restaurants are hurting, and more than 45 million Americans have filed for unemployment [1] since the beginning of the outbreak. Hospitals are also facing a shortage of crucial resources, and if you're not sure who or how to help [2], you should consider showing support to healthcare workers during COVID-19 [3]. From providing equipment to meals to just a few words of encouragement, there are a ton of ways to help out the heroes [4] on the front lines. Check out the gallery for ways to donate or volunteer.

Help Provide PPE

Healthcare workers are always in need of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as N95 respirators, surgical masks, protective goggles, gloves, and face shields, among other things. There are a few different ways you can help.

Help Provide Meals

To help keep frontline health workers fed, check out Frontline Foods [17], which has partnered with World Central Kitchen to bring food from local eateries to healthcare workers. You can make a monetary donation [18] to your local chapter or support the national effort, and you can also sign up to volunteer [19]. If there isn't a chapter in your area, you can even help establish a Frontlines Food chapter [20] in your city. Other national organisations helping to keep healthcare staff fed include Off Their Plate [21] and Pizza vs. Pandemic [22].

Donate to Local Hopsitals

If you want to help provide desperately-needed resources to a local hospital, hospice, or long-term care facility, visit Protect the Heroes [23] to find a healthcare facility in need in your area. Protect the Heroes has catalogueueued every healthcare provider in the US that takes donations, and the site allows you to contribute to hospital emergency relief funds at the facility of your choosing. The site also provides social media assets [24] so you can spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Share Words of Encouragement

If you don't have the means to donate money or time to volunteer, there are still ways to provide support to healthcare workers. Nurse.org [25] allows you to write letters of support and thanks to nurses, which they then send to their community of more than 20 million healthcare workers. Showing your gratitude is an easy way to lift the spirits of those risking their lives for others every day.
