Megan Rapinoe Becomes the 4th Woman to Individually Win SI's Sportsperson of the Year

It's been an eventful year for Megan Rapinoe [1]. The 34-year-old athlete's star has been on the rise since this past Summer, when she helped the US women's football team win its fourth World Cup and lead her team to sue the US Football Federation for equal pay [2]. Now her list of accomplishments is growing even more as she's just been named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year [3].

Megan is featured on the magazine's cover wearing a flowy, high-neck white gown and casually wielding a sledgehammer. She celebrated winning the title by sharing a video montage on Twitter on Dec. 9 of several fans mimicking the now-famous power pose [4] that she struck after scoring two goals in a game against France. "Honoured to win @SInow #Sportsperson of the Year! I couldn't have done it without the fans. This award is for all of you," she tweeted.

This marks the fourth time in Sports Illustrated's 66-year history that a woman has won the Sportsperson of the Year title unaccompanied. Head over to SI.com to check out Megan's full feature.
