11 Pairs of Cycling Shoes That Fit the At-Home Peloton Bike

09/04/2021 - 11:00 AM

Now that you've bought an at-home Peloton bike [1] and started figuring out who your favourite instructors are [2], you get to splurge on all the accessories — the most important being a pair of Peloton-friendly spinning shoes that match the bike's tread dimensions. Before you start shoe shopping though, it's crucial to research what shoes are and aren't compatible with your bike. If you've previously taken spin classes in a Peloton studio or other atelier, the shoes you have may be a two-bolt shoe, which is not compatible with an at-home Peloton bike.

In order to ride your bike, your shoes will need to be able to attach to Delta-compatible cleats [3]. The easiest way to find out if your shoe is compatible with your new bike is by flipping them over to reveal the screw outline on the sole of the shoe. Two adjacent holes mean a two-bolt spinning shoe: not good. For an at-home bike, you'll want a triangle made out of three holes. These are called three-bolt spinning or cycling shoes. Cleats (the bracket on the shoe that connects to the pedals) are available for an additional charge on Peloton's website [4] for three-bolt shoes that don't include cleats. Check out the three-bolt gallery ahead for a stress-free shoe-shopping experience.

Peloton Cycling Shoes

It goes without saying that the Peloton Cycling Shoes [5] (£119) are your safest bet. The shoes feature a breathable upper and mesh vent with a ratchet clip and velcro straps for a perfectly snug fit. You can purchase these as an add-on accessory with your at-home Peloton bike.

Nike SuperRep Cycle Shoes

Nike created its new Nike SuperRep Cycle Shoes [6] (£105) specifically with indoor cycling and Peloton in mind. They accept two and three-bolt cleats (studs are not included) and are made from a high-tech, breathable mesh fabric. They also feature "vents through the bottom of the plate to enable better airflow around the toes", according to the brand.

Venzo Bicycle Road Cycling Riding Shoes

The Venzo Bicycle Road Cycling Riding Shoes [7] (£114 - £128) are specifically designed to be compatible with the Peloton bike. Made with award-winning technology, a breathable mesh, and synthetic upper, these shoes will give you outstanding support. And they come with Delta cleats.

Giro Women's Cycling Shoes

The Giro Women's Cycling Shoes [8] (£120) combine elite performance with convenience. Adjust how tight or loose you like to wear your shoes with a turn of a dial. Allow the shoes to form to your feet with inserted moulding heel pads for the utmost comfort. Choose from colours like midnight, black, or titanium.

Fizik R5 Road Cycling Shoe

Available in multiple colours and patterns, the Fizik R5 Road Cycling Shoe [9] (£99, originally £119) is made with asymmetrical construction to conform to your specific foot's anatomy. With an R5 nylon composite outsole, you're guaranteed to a have a balanced, comfortable, and efficient ride.

DHB Dorica Road Shoe Shoes

The DHB Dorica Road Shoe Shoes [10] (£68, originally £85) offer a more sleek and minimalist design than some of the other options. The laces make it easy to adjust for the perfect fit with the laces, but one note on sizing: the brand recommends buying one size down than you usually wear.

Rapha Classic Cycling Shoes

Incredibly lightweight, the Rapha Classic Cycling Shoes [11] (£180), is actually incredibly durable, thanks to a carbon sole, whilst the sculpted heal and double-lacing system make them supercomfortable and supportive. Available in four colours (in case holographic chrome is a bit too flashy for you), they also feature an elastic loop to tuck your laces in so they never get in the way.

Gaerne Women's Record SPD-SL Road Shoes

A slightly more budget-friendly option (now that they're on sale), the Gaerne Women's Record SPD-SL Road Shoes [12] (£60, originally £100) offer easy closure (thanks to three velcro straps) and ventilation along the soft, microfibre upper. As for the sole (which is compatible with a wide variety of 3-bolt pedal systems, including the Peleton bike), it's a combination of carbon and nylon so it's both firm and supportive.

Sundried Women’s Pro Road Bike Shoes

The two-way edging on the Sundried Women's Pro Road Bike Shoes [13] (£70) help to make you feel supersecure in your pedals, which while probably more important cycling outdoors, will be appreciated during any of Peleton's HIIT rides. Adjustable (thanks to the dial at the top) and breathable, these shoes do run a bit small, so best to buy a half-size up, according to the brand.

Pearl Izumi Women’s W Select Road V5 Cycling Shoe

The Pearl Izumi Women's W Select Road V5 Cycling Shoe [14] (£104 - £110) are as comfortable as they are sleek. The foam-and-rubber heel bumper keeps stable and happy whilst riding, the fabric upper is flexible and breathable, and the width makes them perfect for most feet shapes. All you have to do is by the cleats.

Muddyfox RBS100 Ladies Cycling Shoes

The Muddyfox RBS100 Ladies Cycling Shoes [15] (£38), are a basic-yet-durable pair of cycling shoes that feature holes for three-bolt cleats and mesh vents on the side to allow for increased airflow. One thing to note is they run a bit small, so you may want to order a size up when you order.
