Head to Trader Joe's For Frooze Balls! They're the Best Store-Bought Protein Balls I've Tasted!

06/08/2020 - 06:48 PM

I'm always on the lookout for new plant-based, healthy products when shopping at Trader Joe's, and lucky for me, I usually find at least one! The other day while looking at the protein and granola bar section, I found these Frooze Balls [1], plant-based fruit and nut protein balls. They're not a Trader Joe's product, but on the Frooze Balls website, it says they're available exclusively at Trader Joe's (ooh fancy!). The list of ingredients was clean and the flavours looked delicious, so I picked up two packages. Keep reading to find out more about the nutritional information and what makes them taste so damn good!

Frooze Balls Choc Hazelnut

Frooze Balls, which the website says are the perfect "froozion" of fruit and nuts, come in two flavours, and this Choc Hazelnut flavour was the one I was excited to try first. They're covered in shredded coconut and each package includes five balls.

Frooze Balls Choc Hazelnut Ingredients and Nutritional Information

The Choc Hazelnut Frooze Balls are made with dates, peanuts, hazelnuts, coconut, raw cacao, pink salt, and natural flavour. Each package is one serving (five balls) and has 305 calories, has 16.7 grams of fat, five grams of saturated fat, and no cholesterol. Each serving offers 28.8 grams of carbs and a whopping 7.5 grams of fibre. There are 27.4 grams of sugar (no added sugar) and 6.8 grams of protein.

If you wanted to snack on just one ball, it's 61 calories and offers 1.5 grams of fibre and 1.4 grams of protein, which is perfect for a little treat.

How Do Frooze Balls Choc Hazelnut Taste?

When I bit into one of these Choc Hazenut Frooze Balls, there was a surprise — a creamy hazelnut butter and a fudgy centre! It tasted delicious paired with the shredded coconut, and was almost dessert-like. The texture was soft and chewy, and the surprise centre made them more special than an ordinary energy ball or bar.

Frooze Balls Peanut Butter and Jelly

The other flavour of Frooze Balls is Peanut Butter and Jelly. These are also covered in shredded coconut and have a slightly firmer texture. There are five balls per bag.

Frooze Balls Peanut Butter and Jelly Ingredients and Nutritional Information

Frooze Balls Peanut Butter and Jelly are made with dates, peanuts, coconut, apple juice, pear puree, strawberry puree, elderberry juice, and pink salt. A single serving (five balls) is 284 calories, 12.4 grams of fat, 4.1 grams of saturated fat, and has zero cholesterol. Each bag offers 33.4 grams of carbs and 9.5 grams of fibre! There are 31.7 grams of sugar (five grams of added sugar) and 6.6 grams of protein.

If you only wanted one little taste, one ball is 57 calories and offers 1.9 grams of fibre and 1.3 grams of protein.

How Does Frooze Balls Peanut Butter and Jelly Taste?

Yum! When I bit into these Peanut Butter and Jelly Frooze Balls, my tastebuds were greeted with the delicious combo of creamy peanut butter and actual jelly. The chewy coconut texture was so satisfying, and the flavour was much sweeter than the Choc Hazelnut. I think I liked this flavour the best!

How Much Do Frooze Balls Cost

Both flavours of Frooze Balls each cost $2, which is pretty typical for a protein bar. I like the idea of these balls better than a bar, though, because it makes it easier to have just one little taste for an after-meal treat. A bag would also be great as a quick on-the-go breakfast paired with a small smoothie or to nosh on as a post-workout snack.

Of course, you can make your own date and nut coconut-covered protein balls [2], but you can't beat the convenience of these Frooze Balls. I'll definitely buy these again. I hope they come out with more flavours!
