Zakia Khudadadi has just completed her run as the first-ever taekwondo athlete to represent Afghanistan [1] at the Paralympics. After receiving humanitarian visas from Australia to leave Kabul, Afghanistan, Khudadadi safely ventured through Paris and arrived in Tokyo on Aug. 28 [2].
On Sept. 2, Khudadadi competed in the women's K44 - 49kg class, which includes athletes with unilateral arm amputation [3], making it all the way to the quarterfinals after her round of 16 match. Ahead, to commemorate her debut Paralympic run, are photos from both of Khudadadi's matches.
