Don't Know What Wine to Drink? Tap Into Your Zodiac For the Answer

19/04/2018 - 10:55 PM

The wine list [1] comes to your table and you have to pick your poison. However, you're not sure what kind of drinking mood you're in, what kind of flavours you want, or even what wine is good. You break into a sweat because everyone else seems to know what they want but you — you're left pouring over the menu again and again, totally clueless and holding up everyone else's orders.

It may not seem logical, but tapping into your zodiac sign [2] may help avoid a scenario like this in the future. Zodiac rules a certain amount of our qualities and traits, and can definitely help you out in the wine department if you let it.

So, which wine should be your go-to based on your zodiac sign? Not only did we find out, but we can tell you why, too.

Aries

The pioneer and trailblazer of the zodiac sign, stubborn and unstoppable Aries will continue to ram against something – metaphorically, of course – until the vision is accepted by others.

Wine: Pignoletto (also called Grechetto in some areas). Not yet huge in the US, it is poised to be the next big thing and you, Aries, are just the person to make it so. Made in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, this sparking white wine has rounder, smoother bubbles than its sister, prosecco. It is also more delicate, tending to take on more floral and sweeter fruit notes.

Taurus

With two extremes, a Taurus is either relaxed or totally hyped up. Supportive, romantic and dedicated, a Taurus can also have a hard time breaking from their routine.

Wine: Rosé. Rosé can either be imbibed bubbling or still, just like a Taurus. However, sticking with the same wine settles its questions about dedication, but the difference in styles can help keep the sign from remaining stagnant.

Gemini

A Gemini has a tendency to ride the roller coaster of life, spiraling skywards one minute and plunging into lows the next. They are charming, wise and adventurous.

Wine: Pinot Grigio. A zesty, refreshing, dry white wine that has a punchy acidity with flavors of lemons, limes, green apples and honeysuckle, it will allow Gemini drinkers to literally ride a roller coaster of flavors.

Cancer

With a tough exterior and vulnerable underside, Cancers tend to gravitate towards what is comfortable. Allowing others that know Cancers to feel nurtured, the sign also encourages one to quite literally go with one's gut when it comes to making decisions.

Wine: Riesling. Make no mistake here, a Riesling comes in different layers of sweetness, but a Riesling is still a Riesling – what you see is what you get. Additionally, there is a Riesling for all types – a crisp, white Riesling will pair well with chicken or fish, while a late harvest Riesling becomes an amazing after-dinner cordial or a wonderful complement to a chocolate or caramel dessert.

Leo

While you probably prefer a stiff bourbon Manhattan to wine due to your strong sense of self (your sign is a lion, of course), Leos also tend to lead from the heart and wear their emotions on their sleeves – even if they don't express them.

Wine: Pinot Noir. A Pinot Noir will often smell strong, oaky, smoky and even have a hint of tobacco, like your exterior. However, once it hits the palate, it releases new flavors of black or red berries, leaving the tough exterior behind and replacing it with its true self.

Virgo

Virgo energy focuses on control, purification and organization. However, the sign also is known for pickiness and sky-high standards, which sometimes make Virgos difficult to please.

Wine: Prosecco. Prosecco is the champagne of wines and Virgos usually come with expensive taste. While not Moet & Chandon, prosecco can help those in this sign feel luxurious and upscale after just a few sips.

Libra

With balance and fairness top of mind, a Libra is usually charming, lovable, fair, and sincere, albeit a bit indecisive and melodramatic. However, overall, a Libra is put on this planet to shine brightly.

Wine: Chardonnay. Crisp, cool and buttery, a chardonnay is perfectly in line with a Libra's characteristics. It also has a combination of sweet fruits and other elements – like oak, grass and moss – that balance it, like Libras enjoy.

Scorpio

Intense and focused, the Scorpio is trendsetting and powerful. The sign of life, death and resurrection, Scorpio energy embraces these life cycles and continually transforms and reinvents itself.

Wine: Shiraz. Specific to Australia and New Zealand is the Shiraz, a wine that the country named specifically, although it is technically a Syrah. Just like a Scorpio, the wine region has reinvented the game and is bringing Shiraz to the market like a firestorm.

Sagittarius

Ruled by the straight-shooting Archer, Sagittarius energy manifests through enlightenment, travel and truth-seeking. The sign also encourages leaps of faith and has a thirst for adventure.

Wine: Malbec. One of the classic old-world wine blends has taken on a life of its own through new world processes. This wine can be ordered as either an old world Bordeaux from France or a new world variety from South America, both punchy and full of sweet, fruitful flavors. Malbec is like taking a Sagittarius on a trip around the world without leaving your living room.

Capricorn

Focused on structure and long-term goals, a Capricorn is often a rock for others. Those under the sign are also ambitious and will not abandon its mission once their minds are made up.

Wine: Merlot. Like a Capricorn itself, Merlot is straightforward, often with a strong, robust flavor making it an ambitious drink for even the most experience wine tasters. It lingers on the palate, which mimics the Capricorn's desire to stay focused on long-term goals. And they won't leave a bottle unfinished – also a win.

Aquarius

Innovative and avant-guard, an Aquarius has a need for total independence from the world around them. Rebellious, cutting-edge and often with big ideas, Aquarians are looking to stand out from the pack rather than fall in line.

Wine: Lambrusco. A red, sparkling wine that begs to be served chilled, Lambrusco goes against the grain, as does an Aquarius.

Pisces

A dreamer, healer and one who is full of compassion for others, Pisces is the old soul of the zodiac. While a Pisces can be gullible and self-pitying, those born under these signs are soulfully deep individuals who feel things more deeply than they can express.

Wine: Chianti. A classic wine from Italy, a chianti is exactly what a Pisces will crave. A red wine that goes well with a variety of meals, the chianti is softened up a bit by adding other grape varietals, giving it an earthy, rustic feel.
