GBBO Channel 4 Series

Everything You Need to Know About the New Series of the Great British Bake Off

British people are pretty opinionated when it comes to The Great British Bake Off, so when we heard the news it was moving to channel 4, the nation was divided.

Since then, we've had time to lick our wounds and face the prospect of a new Bake Off, so it's time to see what the new series has in store. Read on to learn everything you need to know before you delve deep into the world of baking, Channel-4 style.

The Panel

Just in case you have forgotten, expect to see bread OG Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as the master judges, with Sandi Toksvig and meringue connoisseur Noel Fielding presenting the show. According to Noel, we can expect big things from him and Prue: "When we did our chemistry test we made love straightaway".

There Will Be 12 Contestants

Including the oldest-ever contestant, Flo, aged 71. Meet all the bakers here!

When It's On

The bake off begins on Tuesday 29 Aug. at 8 p.m. on Channel 4.

On Noel Replacing Mel and Sue

"Visually, it's scary that Mel has been replaced by a vampire" says Noel.

There Will Be a Tent!

There Will Be Adverts

Shock horror! The move from the BBC means ad breaks, but apparently the ads are well placed, according to Channel 4 Chief Executive Jay Hunt, who says, "We've been very, very careful about thinking where the ad breaks sit." The show will also have official sponsors for the first time ever, Lyle's Golden Syrup and Dr Oetker. Should we expect a "golden syrup week"?

The Standard of Bakers Is Very High

According to a BBC interview (ironic!), there are not one but two Hollywood handshakes in the first episode alone.

On That Show Advert

Admit it, you were a bit creeped out by the advert. One thing is for sure, it definitely sets a new tone for the show. We expect to see a little more comedy but no lack in the level of skill from the bakers.

The Opening Credits Are a Little More Theatrical

Think hot-air balloons rather than soggy-bottom jokes.

People are Already Betting on Favourite Contestants

William Hill has already released odds on the new contestants. Julia is the favourite at 5/1, ahead of Steven at 6/1. According to a William Hill spokesperson, "Julia has apparently been solidly training for GBBO for the last three years." Here are the full odds to add an extra bit of excitement to next weeks much anticipated episode: 5/1 Julia; 6/1 Steven; 7/1 Liam; 7/1 Tom; 7/1 Yan; 9/1 Chris; 10/1 James; 10/1 Kate; 10/1 Peter; 10/1 Stacey; 12/1 Sophie; 16/1 Flo.
