If you consider yourself in the know when it comes to pizza, chances are L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele is already on your doughy, cheesy radar. The restaurant that has been feeding the people of Naples since 1870 opened its first London branch location in February and unsurprisingly still boasts queues out the door. I took a trip down to Stoke Newington, Church Street for a slice of the action (sorry, the cheese got to me).
L'Antica Pizzeria's offerings are simple, featuring just margherita and marinara on the menu. To avoid FOMO, I suggest ordering one of each and doubling up on mozzarella on your marg. It's what Julia Roberts ordered in Eat Pray Love, and if it's good enough for J, it's good enough for us all. Like her, we should all be ignoring the muffin top on this one.
If euphoria is your bag after you've taken a moment to experience the confusion, disbelief, and dizziness the sauce alone will bring, then this is the pizza for you. The Neapolitan recipe balances base, sauce, and cheese, my god, the cheese, in heavenly ways. My crust-loving companion even added, "It tastes so good, it makes me angry."
