6 Unconventional Eggs That Prove Easter Needs to Calm Down

31/03/2018 - 06:30 AM

Once upon an Easter, the eggs we frantically consumed through the public holiday via bunny mail were chocolate. The extent of your stash would consist of two milk chocolate halves (of the supermarket variety) sealed together to create one single egg. Well, sorry to inform you, it's 2018 and our Easter eggs are made of cheese now. They're not alone, either; if you want to fit in this year, you practically have to abandon all convention. From avocado to dragon eggs [1], keep reading for the six that refuse to conform.

Dragon Eggs

If you've got a Game of Thrones-shaped hole in your heart, we're sorry, you'll have to wait until 2019. If the hole is in your stomach, however, try The Best Dragon Egg [3] (£6) from Morrisons. The milk chocolate egg decorated with red and gold shimmer will make you the Khaleesi of the long weekend.

Avocado Eggs

In a likely ploy to appeal to millennial appetites, Waitrose is responsible for the Dark Chocolate Avocado Easter Egg [4] (£8). Though it may not contain the fleshy fruit itself, it's 100 percent chocolate.

Cheese Eggs

Already causing a stir online is the Blacksticks Cheester Egg [5], available in ASDA stores from March 16. The egg consists of a spreadable cheese half egg accompanied by a packet of oatcakes and a sachet of chutney.

Dinosaur Eggs

If Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is already keenly marked in your calendar, then Firebox's take on Easter will satisfy your curiosity as well as your taste buds. This pack of six Chocolate Dinosaur Eggs [6] (£12) features a cracked shell texture embedded with popping honeycomb chunks.

Prosecco Eggs

For a more mature palate partial to a bubble-induced hiccup (sorry, kids!), look no further than Prestat's Easter offerings. Our favourite? The Pink Popping Prosecco Easter Egg [7] (£17.50), a milk chocolate egg with fizzing pink chocolate lining, filled with Prosecco-infused truffles.

Gin and Tonic Eggs

If your interest was piqued at "these eggs have booze in them," try The Treat Kitchen. This Gin and Tonic Easter Egg [8] (£10) will not disappoint.
