Warheads Sour Spiked Seltzers Review

These Warheads Sour Spiked Drinks Pack Just as Much of a Punch as the Actual Candy

If Willy Wonka had a brewery, he would probably make beer that tasted like Fruity Pebbles if he was feeling sweet, or maybe a pineapple lemonade ale for those who love a bit of tang. But in the case of Warheads Extreme Sour Ales and Hard Seltzers, it's literally as if Wonka himself decided to liquify and spike the sour candy. While we can't credit the fictional candy maker, we can give thanks to New York-based brewery, Artisanal Brew Works, and Impact Confections (the candy company behind Warheads) for making this incredibly sour drink a reality.

As someone who loved Warheads as a kid, I was stoked to try the alcoholic version as an adult. Judging by the nostalgia I experienced when I took my first sip, I can confidently say that drinking it is a lot like eating Warheads. First you get hit with that extreme sourness, then a slightly sweet candy taste comes through, and once it mellows out you're left with a tart aftertaste. The only thing that's missing is a blue tongue after downing one of these drinks.

I honestly was just expecting a general sourness — a flavour comparable to hard lemonade. However, the four main flavours I tried — blue raspberry, green apple, cherry, and watermelon — were all very distinct. According to Artisanal Brew Works, different flavour combos such as like cherry lime, orange pineapple, and lemon berry are set to come out next month.

The Warheads flavour is definitely prominent, but you can still definitely taste the five percent ABV that both the ale and seltzer versions of these drinks contain. There's no overwhelming sweetness either! I'm just glad I live in one of the select states that currently distributes them, because I'm definitely going to be craving more Warheads Spiked Drinks again.
