Disney Is Hosting a Progressive Dinner, and You Have to Take the Monorail to Get to Each Stop

25/09/2019 - 05:55 PM

There's no shortage of tasty treats [1] at Walt Disney World, but if you're looking for something really different (perhaps a step above Mickey waffles and turkey legs?), look no further than Disney's progressive dinner. The Highway in the Sky Dine Around [2] is a lavish, five-course dinner that requires you to travel to different Disney resorts for each dish. And the best part? Your mode of transportation is none other than Disney's famous monorail. (OK, the food might be the best part, but travelling by monorail is way up there.)

You'll start your evening with a welcome appetizer and cocktails at the Contemporary Resort's The Wave...of American Flavours. From there, you'll board the monorail for a quick trip to the Polynesian Resort where you'll enjoy a taste of the tropics with even more sips and snacks. Next, you'll travel to the Grand Floridian [3] for cheese and charcuterie, followed by your main course in Citricos' opulent dining room.

But the night doesn't end there! You'll then make your way back around to the Contemporary (with views of the Magic Kingdom along the way) for dessert, cordials, and coffee on a private patio. Did we mention the culmination of your evening coincides with the nightly fireworks show and you'll basically have a front row seat? OK, we're sold on this delicious dining experience, but there are a few more things you should know before you go.

Cost

The cost for the Highway in the Sky Dine Around [4] is $170 per person (this does include gratuity and valet parking). This is definitely on the high end for Disney dining experiences, but it's also one of the most memorable. If you are on a Disney dining plan, you cannot use your dining credits, nor do they honour any other discounts or promotions.

Availability

If your mouth is already watering, keep in mind that this one-of-a-kind meal is only available Monday through Thursday and reservations fill up fast when the 180-day booking window opens up. You'll also want to remember your ID if you plan on indulging in those included cocktails, and you'll need to alert your host at check-in of any food allergies.

Dress Code

Unlike most Disney restaurants, this one does have a dress code. Men are encouraged to wear khakis, slacks, or dress shorts with collared shirts. Women should wear capris, skirts, dresses, or dress shorts. Tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, cover-ups, hats, cut-offs, and anything torn or with offencive language is not permitted. You can wear nice denim, but this is one of the few opportunities to really get glammed up at Disney, so why not go all out?

Experience

Not to burst your bubble, but if you have young kids [5] you may have to sit this one out for a few years, because guests under 12 are not permitted. We think this event would be best for couples on their honeymoon, couples just visiting for holiday, and guests who have eaten at many of the Disney restaurants [6] and are in the mood for something new and different.
