White Hot Chocolate Recipe With Photos

This White Hot Chocolate Tastes Like Your Coziest Christmas Memories — Here’s How To Make It

From chocolate advent calendars to peppermint bark and homemade fudge, it's easy to get all chocolated out during the holiday season. If you're not in the mood to drink hot cocoa, but still want to enjoy a warm holiday drink, consider making yourself a mug of white hot chocolate instead. It's sweet, rich, and creamy, and has just the right amount of chocolatey goodness. (Though, we'll let you settle the debate as to whether white chocolate really counts as chocolate.)

Much like a traditional hot chocolate, white hot chocolate starts out with chocolate chips and milk. You'll melt the chocolate into the milk, then add either vanilla or peppermint extract, marshmallows, and whipped cream. With vanilla extract, it'll taste like sugar cookies, and with peppermint extract it'll taste like candy cane. Whichever flavour you go with, this drink will give you all the cosy Christmas feels. Homemade White Hot Chocolate

Original Recipe

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup whole milk
2 oz. white chocolate or ⅓ cup white chocolate chips
⅛ tsp vanilla or peppermint extract
    ¼ cup marshmallows
    Whipped cream to taste
    Red and green sprinkles (optional)
Your most festive holiday mug (also optional, but strongly encouraged)

Directions

  1. In a small pot over low heat, melt chocolate chips with milk. Avoid turning up the heat any higher than medium-low, as the milk will curdle if brought to a boil.
  2. Whisk continuously until the chocolate has melted, then remove the pot from the stove and add the vanilla or peppermint extract. (Be sure not to use spearmint extract, as this will make your hot chocolate taste like toothpaste rather than candy cane.)
  3. Add marshmallows to the bottom of your mug before pouring the hot chocolate-milk mixture in.
  4. Top with whipped cream and decorate with sprinkles. Enjoy!
