Holidays are the perfect time to kick back, relax, and treat yourself, and what better way to do that than with the help of some adult toys? However, if you're flying to your destination, you might stop to think, "Wait . . . can I take sex toys on an aeroplane?" The short answer is yes. While the UK Government doesn't specifically have any rules about travelling with sex toys, they do have a section on "electronic devices", detailing what can be taken in both hand and checked luggage. Some airlines don't allow batteries or battery-operated items to be taken on board, so make sure you check before you fly – and consider bringing your trusty rechargeable vibrator, instead.

To avoid any potential embarrassment during your security screening, there are a few ways to make sure your intimate items are brought along for the ride as safely and discreetly as possible. We've spoken to a sex and relationship expert at Roam for everything you need to know about taking your personal pleasure toy on holiday. Keep reading for all the best tips for bringing sex toys on an aeroplane.

Bigger Isn't Always Better:

Packing light is always a good idea, so when it comes to sex toys, smaller is better. As tempted as you may be to take your wand massager along as a stowaway, that's bound to attract more attention on the security monitor than a cute little bullet vibrator (and it will definitely take up more room in your already-overstuffed bag!) "If it is battery powered, we suggest removing any batteries before packing, or running the battery out beforehand if it's rechargeable" so as to avoid any awkward sex toy noises", says Roam co-founder Alex Griffiths. Impromptu buzzing means unwanted stares, and you don't have any need for that in your life.

Hide Them in Plain Sight:

"Pack your sex toy safe and snug in between soft layers of clothes to avoid the chance of any buttons being pressed accidentally in your bag," Griffiths suggests. It's also a good idea to keep it in a zip-lock bag just in case a security guard does have to handle it — the only hands that should be touching your precious cargo are your own (or your partner's, if you so choose).

Check Before You Travel:

"If you're heading overseas, it's important to know whether the places you're visiting have sex toy restrictions. Some countries classify sex toys as pornographic material and are therefore banned, so do your research before you go," says Griffiths. Keep in mind that The Maldives, Saudia Arabia, Malaysia, The United Arab Emirates (UEA), Thailand, Vietnam, and India all ban sex toys.

Just keep this in mind: it's totally within your right to bring your toys along for the journey (other than the countries in which they're banned), so even if you get questioned, own it and remember that your sexuality is your prerogative.
