A bangin' body, a girl who can eat, and a superdown chick who can hang with the guys might be several responses you receive when asking men to describe their ideal girlfriends. But when you tweak the subject of the conversation to ask what they look for in a potential wife, things go beyond surface level. Turns out, when it's time to talk about the person you want to spend your life with instead of who you want to spend tonight with, sh*t gets a little more real, and in a good way.
Values shift from cool and slightly superficial to something with more depth and substance. I looked to some of my male friends to find out what they consider to be "wifey material," and while all their responses differed, one thing was clear: she's got to be more than a pretty face. In fact, none of their answers even mentioned physical appearance. Here's what single, taken, and soon-to-be-married men had to say.
"Motivated and independent; pushes me to be better. When I'm with her, I want to be the best me and make her happy along the way." — Andrew J., 28
"What makes a girl wifey material is sharing similar interests, being able to talk about deep topics, knowing I can go to her with anything, and enjoying every moment with her knowing I can do this for the rest of my life." — Mason, 25
"Trustworthy — you never want the jealousy to linger and get stronger; always make sure you have developed trust between each other." — Nolan, 28
"Family-oriented — no two people come from the same family . . . You must learn to work with both sides of the family and figure out what works for your own." — Nolan
"I consider a girl to be wifey material if she would make a good mummy. The most important thing wifey and I will do is raise a family, so to upgrade from girlfriend to wifey, she's got to make a great mummy." — Jose, 23
"Someone you want to go to a concert with, travel with, do the dishes with, take naps with, raise a family with, and tackle life with when things get tough. And sex. Great sex." — Andrew C., 31
