Many prominent people, including well-known politicians, gathered to honour former First Lady Barbara Bush [3] during her funeral services at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston on April 21. Attendees included the Bush family, former president Bill Clinton and former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and former President Barack Obama, who was seated next to current First Lady Melania Trump.

Melania attended the services on behalf of her husband, President Donald Trump, who wasn't present "to avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family," according to BBC [4]. Trump tweeted [5] that he would watch the funeral services from the White House instead.

Melania Trump and Barack Obama sat next to one another in the front pew and talked, occasionally smiling . . . and the internet definitely took notice. Given the tense history between Obama and his successor, the seemingly charming interaction definitely begs the question: what did Barack and Melania chat about? While we'll likely never know, it's encourageing to see the two exchange pleasantries and come together to celebrate the life [6] of an influential woman.
