Popsugar News Us News Sinkhole on White House Lawn May 2018 An Actual Sinkhole Opened Up on the White House Lawn, and the Jokes Write Themselves 23 May 2018 by Erin Cullum This week I’ve been observing a sinkhole on the @WhiteHouse North Lawn, just outside the press briefing room, growing larger by the day. pic.twitter.com/BsFUtxFqpB— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) May 22, 2018 Feminist icon Mother Nature has done it again. A sinkhole opened up on the White House lawn outside of the press briefing room, and honestly, the jokes write themselves. Reporters first noticed a small sinkhole on May 20, and apparently the hole in the ground has continued to grow since then. A spokeswoman for the National Park Service released a statement saying, "We do not believe it poses any risk to the White House or is representative of a larger problem," but that's not stopping everybody on Twitter from losing their minds over the hilarity. A few people have even created sinkhole Twitter accounts already, naturally. "Melanie's escape tunnel caved in," people joked, referring to Donald Trump's latest tweeting gaffe in which he misspelled his wife's name. What makes all of this even more noteworthy is that a sinkhole opened up in front of Mar-a-Lago exactly a year ago — almost to the day. Is the earth trying to tell us something?! Get ready to cackle over the funniest reactions ahead. Hello, world! It definitely doesn’t suck to be me. #sinkholepride— White House Sinkhole (@HouseSinkhole) May 22, 2018 1 / 14 An actual, literal sinkhole has opened on the White House lawn outside the briefing room on the north side.
