Banksy's NHS Artwork Displayed in Southampton Hospital

Banksy's New NHS Artworks Depicts Nurses as the Superheroes They Really Are

New artwork by Banksy has appeared in Southampton General Hospital this week.

The anonymous artist's new piece titled "Game Changer" shows a young boy playing with a nurse superhero toy, having put his old toys (Batman and Spiderman) in a basket on the floor. The nurse, flying through the air, is wearing a cape, protective mask, and an apron with the Red Cross emblem. Along with the piece, Banksy left a note with the hospital staff, which read: "Thanks for all you're doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if its only black and white."

The artwork will be on public display until lockdown has lifted, after which it will be auctioned off to raise money for NHS charities.

"Our hospital family has been directly impacted with the tragic loss of much loved and respected members of staff and friends," said Paula Head, CEO of the university hospital Southampton NHS foundation trust. "It will be really valued by everyone in the hospital, as people get a moment in their busy lives to pause, reflect, and appreciate this piece of art. It will no doubt also be a massive boost to morale for everyone who works and is cared for at our hospital," she added.
