UK Unites to Clap For NHS Carers During Coronavirus
A Second Clap For Our Carers Is Scheduled For Tonight To Remind Us We’re All in This Together
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the entire world, there's one thing that has become abundantly clear, and that's who the true essential workers are. From the NHS, to the volunteers working tirelessly to support them, delivery drivers, food workers, and more — those of us who are lucky enough to self-isolate at home are only able to do so because of these people.
Last week, it was time to show our appreciation for these people. At 8 p.m. on Thursday night, the nation came together, hanging out their front windows, standing at their front doors or on balconies to applaud the carers — and wow, was it special. In all corners of the country, people were united for a few minutes, and it was a beautiful (and much-needed) reminder that while many of us feel lonely right now while the UK is in lockdown, we're all actually in this together.
The organiser of the UK's Clap For Our Carers, Annemarie Plas, has now organised a second event to celebrate the key workers keeping the country going during this time. Plas hopes it will become a weekly event during lockdown, with the public showing continued support for these people. The goal is that every Thursday night, at 8 p.m., the UK will band together for a moment of joy and appreciation.
