Hulu’s New Series Featuring Same-Sex Parents Encourages Kids to Be “The True You”

Hulu just announced a brand new original animated series for kids about a young pumpkin farmer who dreams of becoming the bravest knight who ever lived, and OMG, it looks hella adorable. The Bravest Knight, based on the book The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived by Daniel Errico [1], will follow Ser Cedric through stories from his childhood up to becoming a knight, which he's telling to his 10-year-old adopted daughter and aspiring knight, Nia, whom he shares with his husband, Prince Andrew. And it's safe to say that the series is breaking boundaries in the best way.

The announcement comes on the heels of the season 22 premiere of Arthur, in which Mr. Ratburn invites some of his students to his wedding [2] to a man named Patrick. The Bravest Knight featuring a same-sex interracial married couple as the main characters makes for kids' entertainment that normalizes gay marriage (and adoption!), and pushes for more representation on the small screen through bold and inclusive storytelling.

The show will feature a stacked voice cast, including T.R. Knight as Ser Cedric, Bobby Moynihan, Wanda Sykes, RuPaul, AJ McLean, Dot-Marie Jones, and more. All new episodes of The Bravest Knight will be available to stream on Hulu come June 21 (right in the middle of Pride month!), and more episodes are slated to drop later this year. Watch the catchy theme for the show above — it's so cute!
